RMIT's Associate Degree program is giving Mathew the flexibility of further university study or being ready for the workforce.
Associate Degree in Engineering Technology (Mechanical)
I arrived at RMIT on Open Day to find a student making a quadricopter hover around the room using an iPad as a controller. At that moment, I knew this is where I wanted to be.
It showed me that RMIT University has a spirit and energy that I couldn't find anywhere else.
After high school, it's been great to choose subjects that have a direct relation to what I want to do in life. I have a passion for air-conditioning, so engineering subjects like thermofluids have been favourites because they're engaging but also pose incredible challenges.
My program offers a good balance of straight engineering with management-type courses that will help me in my future career. In particular, the engineering project course in the final semester thoroughly prepares students to solve problems, organise resources, and oversee projects.
I'm glad I chose the Associate Degree program. It means that after two years, I am ready to get a job in the workforce if I choose but also allows me to transfer into an engineering degree program if I keep my GPA up. At this stage, I'm hoping to complete a Bachelor in Engineering (Mechanical) after graduating from the Associate Degree.
Ultimately, I'm looking forward to a career designing better and more efficient air-conditioners and other appliances and working for local and international companies like Seeley International, Dyson, and Fisher and Paykel.“
