A combination of interest in studying the human body and helping people realise their health potential drew me to study remedial massage.
I chose to study at RMIT because it offered the opportunity to gain experience through industry placements and the Myotherapy Teaching Clinic.
As part of my studies, I’ve learnt the clinical reasoning behind causes of pain and the techniques to relieve it. My communication skills have also improved, which is integral in helping me to implement treatment plans with patients.
The Myotherapy Teaching Clinic simulates industry practice and I’ve been able to gain practical experience while honing my skills with the guidance of industry professionals. I’ve also completed placements at the AFL Draft Camp and the Australian College of Basketball at MSAC.
Working with patients to alleviate pain and improve their musculoskeletal ability is the most rewarding part of the job.
I’m currently building a personal client base that I treat regularly. It is really satisfying to have clients who have benefited from my treatment refer other people to me.
I have continued my studies with the Advanced Diploma of Myotherapy. After I complete my studies, I plan to start practicing at a clinic specialising in postural correction. Eventually I’d like to own a clinic and my dream would be to work with the Australian Cricket team’s physical conditioning staff.
