I love my job because it's always interesting, you’re able to make profound positive impacts on people with illness and in turn assist their path to recovery.
I’ve been working in mental health since the late 1980s, when I became a psychiatric state enrolled nurse.
I wanted to extend my skills and decided to pursue postgraduate studies in mental health nursing. It has been great going back to university. I’ve really enjoyed going to lectures and learning something new each time.
My studies have helped me identify and access contemporary mental health nursing evidence-based practise. The nursing research skills that I’ve gained are invaluable.
I’m currently a Clozapine and Physical Healthcare Coordinator at Melbourne Health. Earlier this year, I was proud to obtain a four month secondment to Area Senior Nurse Consultant. In the future I hope to move into a more senior role in mental health nursing.
