Jorja Maffey already knew what she wanted to do with her career. She just needed one final step to take her there. Now, with RMIT, she has her dream job and runs her own Specsavers store.
Certificate IV in Optical Dispensing
I am more confident when I dispense as I have a greater understanding of the optics. My attention to detail has improved and this has enhanced my retailing skills.
I am loud. I am enthusiastic. I am committed.
I’d been working in the optical dispensing industry for a while with Specsavers and was ready to take my career to the next stage by opening my own store. In preparation for this responsibility I decided to gain a formal qualification as an optical dispenser.
After looking around, I chose RMIT University. As well as being convenient, RMIT offered a fast track program which enabled me to keep working full-time, even as I studied.
Working and studying in tandem proved to be a good idea as I could go back and forth between the two. I was applying what I’d learned to my work practice and I could bring questions back to the classroom that had come up at work.
The teachers were highly professional and knew the industry inside out. Through my program, I developed skills and knowledge that gave me the confidence to handle almost any situation that may come up. I am more confident when I dispense as I have a greater understanding of the optics. My attention to detail has improved and this has enhanced my retailing skills.
Thanks, in part to my program, I now have my dream job. I own and run my own Specsavers store in Brighton.
I love working with people. I love the company I work for. I love what I do.
