Unparalleled industry engagement opportunities convinced Corbin Stevic to study international urban and environmental management at RMIT.
Postgraduate study can totally change your career or give you a competitive edge in your chosen field. Study opens your eyes and mind to new ideas that will benefit you no matter what you do.
“After completing an undergraduate degree in civil engineering, a Master of International Urban and Environmental Management degree was the perfect opportunity for me to follow my interest and build a career. I’m a bit of a greenie and an urbanist who loves to travel the world, so the decision was easy. I had heard that RMIT has a practical approach to delivering the program, and thought that a practical postgraduate degree with various work experience opportunities would suit me best.
“In June 2015 I participated in a study tour to Bogota, Colombia with students from Australia, Mexico, Sweden and Colombia. We worked with disadvantaged communities to develop and produce an urban renewal project, which has been the most rewarding part of the course so far. I also worked as a planner in a consulting firm as part of the work-integrated learning component, and it was great to apply concepts from the masters program into the workplace. For my Capstone project I completed a detailed professional research report that focused on participatory geographical information system (GIS) methods to support disaster risk reduction efforts in Vanuatu. It was a big task but I felt an amazing sense of accomplishment once I finished it.
“The course has taught me to be analytical and strategic in my thinking, and also developed my skills in research, statutory and strategic planning, environmental management, project planning and methods of public participation. I love working in international development because it gives me the opportunity to positively contribute to the lives of millions of people.”
