Want to know what the Global Summer School experience is like? Want to know how it can benefit your university plans?
Hear from two Global Summer School Program (GSSP) graduates Maryam and Gunjan as they discuss their experience of the program, how it prepared them for university and what’s next for them.
The Global Summer School Program was an extremely enjoyable and a beneficial course for me. The quality of teaching and the structure of the course was of the highest degree, and the friendliness of the staff exceeded far beyond my expectations.
The course was structured extremely well, covering all necessary topics. The class times were arranged so that I don’t have to miss school and the lectures were also recorded so the course was extremely flexible to fit into my schedule.
Overall, it was just an amazing course! It allowed me to experience a university course while gaining invaluable knowledge and skills.
The Global Summer School Program gave me the experience of taking a university-level course and showed me how a prestigious university functions – a skill that I find extremely useful.
By completing the Introduction to Programming course, I was able to also gain credits towards study at RMIT University and gave some interesting insights into possible career paths.
The Global Summer School Program also improved many crucial soft skills, such as time management and problem solving.
Mainly, it was how a university course takes place. I gained skills such as note taking, time management, innovative thinking, attention to detail and analytical skills. All which I consider invaluable skills.
DO IT! I still cannot believe that such an amazing course with fantastic teachers at a prestigious university like RMIT was completely free of charge!
On top of that, there were several social media competitions and a workshop, which made the experience even more enjoyable!
I will continue my high school studies and then go to a prestigious university like RMIT University, where I can continue my passion for coding.
The thing I liked most about the Business Information Systems course was my teacher. He was so interactive in the class and I liked his way of teaching. He asked us questions and spoke to us like he’s our friend and I really understood what he was teaching.
The second thing I liked the most in is the assignments we were given. One example is when we were tasked to create a business report. I never imagined that I would be making a business report in my 12th class! I got to learn so many new things from the program because it really helped my university studies.
Afterwards, we were given a full minute video with feedback on what we did well and what we missed. He was generous with his feedback. I really liked that and am thankful to RMIT for conducting the GSSP.
It has greatly helped me improve my communication skills and social confidence.
In the GSSP I interacted with so many students who are not from my country. I have made friends from Malaysia, Vietnam and everywhere. I also interacted with students in different states in my country too. Many of them are still my friends on Instagram and WhatsApp.
Before this, I didn’t have the confidence to talk in class but now I do. The social interaction has also helped me with my college interviews and increased my network.
The GSSP gave me an edge when starting university. I learned business information knowledge that other students didn’t have.
The most important skill I learned during GSSP is Microsoft Excel. We learned how to analyse business data in Excel sheets and do formulas like pivot tables and V lookup. These are things that every business student should know.
For example, there was a social organisation in my university, and I wanted to join the finance department. To get recruited we had to analyse a sample sheet of data. Using the skills I learned, I analysed it using pivot tables and made a business report and got selected to join
Before signing up to the GSSP, you may have many questions. Will I be able to do it with my higher studies? Do I have the time? I suggest you should do it because you will be able to manage. The teachers give you so much time to do the tasks and the classes are on alternate days so you are not there everyday.
Doing the program will also give you an extra edge in your future in your CV or university application, and will help you stand out!
My main focus is to go into the finance field. From the GSSP, I learned that Excel interests me and I really like the analysis part so I want to study financial analysis and earn my CFA, then one day go for my MBA.
There’s so much more to explore though, so let’s see what happens!
