Course Summary
This course focuses on developing your understanding of several selected chemical topics relevant to the chemical sciences; it is content rich, but incorporates a problem-based approach as applied to real life examples.
The course aims to develop your advanced level critical thinking, problem solving and communication skills in industrial, organic and physical chemistry - the skills that professional scientists will require during their career in solving structural, energetic and kinetic problems associated with chemical, physical, metallurgical or biological processes. It builds on your basic chemistry knowledge developed in prior years.
Recorded lectures in Minerals Processing Chemistry, Heterogeneous Catalysis, Heterocyclic Organic Chemistry and Physical Chemistry will be presented. A detailed understanding of industrial chemistry, the organic chemistry of organosulphur, organophosphorus and heterocyclic compounds, electrochemistry and surface chemistry is developed so as to provide you with the necessary skills to analyse complex chemical systems encountered in the professional practice of chemistry, either in industry or in a research environment.
