Course Summary

Energy is a key element in social and economic development, and has major environmental impacts. Existing energy use is clearly ecologically unsustainable. This course introduces energy as a social, economic and environmental issue. It facilitates development of an understanding of energy policy and practice issues so that the student will be able to implement basic energy management strategies at home and in business, and develop and evaluate energy policies and strategies. Emphasis is placed on energy issues of relevance to urban and regional planning, energy management within organizations, and government policy and programs. Energy provides a useful case study of the challenges involved in social and technological change and how governments and organizations respond.
