The design studio is the core of the interior design program, offering diverse contexts and approaches for exploring interior design practice. At the start of each semester, you will select from a suite of studio projects via a ballot, allowing you to pursue individual areas of interest.
This is a designated Work Integrated Learning (WIL) course that connects you directly with industry mentors, design-focused businesses, and community organisations. Throughout the semester, you will work on authentic, project-based learning experiences where industry engagement and feedback play a central role in your professional development.
Studios are led by both academic and industry practitioners and involve the investigation of real-world sites, typologies, contexts, and design challenges. You will develop your conceptual thinking, technical proficiency, and design communication skills through the integration of knowledge gained from related courses in history and theory, communication, and technology.
The course culminates in a professional presentation of your design outcomes to peers, staff, and industry representatives, followed by a reflective evaluation of your learning experience and professional growth. You will be supported and guided by your WIL course coordinator throughout your project.
