Course Summary
This course will examine the principles, processes, issues and practices underlying strategic land use planning. Strategic planning at different scales (regional, metropolitan, local) will be examined, drawing in particular on the Melbourne and Victorian context. Key debates and lessons from planning in other national and international contexts will also be explored. In understanding strategic planning as a process, this course examines the role of strategic planners working with different governance and political frameworks and how this influences and shapes decision-making processes. The main elements of strategic plans and plan making are examined in the context of integrated land use - transport planning, social, economic and environmental concerns.
