Course Summary

This course introduces you to the area of psychology that studies social behaviour: how people think and feel about one another, relate to each other, and influence each other, within and across cultural contexts. You will examine how cultural backgrounds shape our values, interactions, and perceptions of social issues. The course highlights classic and contemporary theories, and the cultural factors influencing core applied topics such as psychopathology, research methods, behavioural practices and global equity. You will utilise the social research skills acquired in this course to enrich efforts to address real-world challenges. You will acquire practical and theoretical insight on methodological issues central to both social and cross-cultural psychological research, including the complexities of conducting studies across different groups. By basic and applied research, you will develop a broader, more global perspective on the reciprocity between social psychological science and the societies it seeks to serve. The course examines the main methodological techniques used to study social behaviour, as well as the unique challenges and opportunities presented by qualitative and cross-cultural research.
