Course Summary
From catchments to rivers, flood plains to coasts, understanding flows of urban water helps us think about cities in new ways. Following urban waterways identifies relationships, spaces, and geographies that are different to those of buildings, roads, and parks. This course provides students with an introduction to integrated water cycle management. It offers a whole of systems approach for managing water that draws together understandings of how water flows through catchments, including its community and environmental relationships. In addition to exploring regional dimensions of water use and management, you will investigate initiatives that in urban environments to promote water sensitive cities. Classes will include field trips and conversations with industry experts and will also consider how legislation and policy can be used to manage water in both urban and non-urban environments. With both access to freshwater and rising oceans some of the pressing issues facing humanity today, thinking about sustainable water management is more important than ever.
