Course Summary

You will be learning all about invertebrate and vertebrate animals, including sponges, cnidarians, flatworms, nematodes, annelids, molluscs, arthropods, echinoderms, minor protostome and deuterostome groups, invertebrate chordates, fishes, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals. You will also be learning about animal classification, evolutionary history and relationships (phylogeny), the diversity of taxonomic groups, the structure and function of animal characteristics, and the roles of animals in the environment.  

You will investigate living and preserved animal specimens, including some dissections in your laboratory sessions. You will be able to observe live animals in your field excursions.  

You will be able to learn and practice the following skills: observation, experimental design and planning, data collection, communication (report writing, oral presentation), and group work.
