The course provides tools to carry out the process design of operations involving mass transfer. The subject matter covers treatment of separation processes based on the concepts of stage wise and differential mass transfer. Process design integrates knowledge from other courses (for example PROC2089 Process Plant Design and Economics and PROC2090 Process Control and Simulation) to enable appropriate equipment design. Extensive use is made of industrial examples and analogies between the various transport mechanisms to encourage lateral thinking.
