In this course, you will develop advanced skills to critically analyse the causes of substance use and substance use disorders across the lifespan, considering social determinants and their complex impacts. You will evaluate how substance use affects mental and physical health, rights, and recovery for individuals, families, and communities. Through interactive learning, you will appraise and synthesise evidence-based, ethical approaches to mental health nursing assessment, planning, and intervention. You will apply and justify harm reduction and recovery-oriented paradigms in practice, aligned with professional standards, human rights, and global priorities. You will also evaluate service systems, policies, and interprofessional networks to improve access, integration, and advocacy for people with co-occurring mental health and substance use conditions.
