Course Summary

Honours Science 1 introduces you to advanced disciplinary concepts and contemporary developments in your scientific field. Through engagement with specialised theories, emerging research and contested knowledge claims, you will extend and integrate advanced disciplinary understanding beyond undergraduate level.

In consultation with your project supervisor and Discipline Honours Coordinator, you will select discipline-appropriate topics that support your Honours research direction and strengthen your preparation for independent scholarly investigation.

Assessment tasks in this course are discipline-specific and provide flexibility for different scientific fields, while ensuring all students demonstrate advanced disciplinary understanding, critical evaluation of scientific literature and the application of specialised knowledge to complex scientific problems.

Through seminars, guided scholarly inquiry and self-directed study, you will deepen your theoretical understanding, extend your analytical capabilities and engage with current debates and emerging perspectives within your discipline, critically examining how knowledge is generated, evaluated and refined within your field.

If you are enrolled in this course as a component of your Bachelor Honours Program, your overall mark will contribute to the calculation of the Weighted Average Mark (WAM).
