Course Summary

In this integrated, practical course you will participate in three distinct modules:
Data Acquisition and Surveying introduces theoretical and practical concepts regarding data acquisition from various sources. You will use data collection (smart phone apps) to undertake a field mapping exercise and use this data to examine concepts around data quality, making links to the importance of surveying for the provision of fit-for-purpose spatial datasets.
Geographical Information Systems (GIS) introduces the principles of GIS. You will undertake practical exercises and lab sessions designed to introduce the techniques of digital data transfer, data editing and manipulation. You will explore basic spatial analysis processes and make use of data from the previous module.
Cartography complements the theoretical and practical concepts relevant to the visual communication of spatial planning and development. You will work with data from the previous modules and apply basic principles of visual and cartographic design to produce an effective re-development plan.
