Course Summary

In this course, you will explore your photographic practice by examining its place within the interconnected worlds of professional, artistic, and social photography.

You will develop a nuanced understanding of photographic practices by engaging deeply with historical and theoretical contexts. Through thoughtful analysis, you'll explore photographic works as cultural artefacts that emerge from and respond to complex social, political, and aesthetic landscapes.

You will investigate how photographic practices create meaningful dialogues with their historical roots, contemporary environments, and potential audiences, developing a critical perspective that transforms your approach to image-making.

By critically examining the genealogies of photographic discourse, you will develop advanced analytical skills that both challenge and inform your own creative practice. This course invites you to move beyond surface-level interpretation, instead constructing a deeply reflective approach that situates your work within broader cultural conversations and emerging visual methodologies.

This course is part of the Major: Art-centred Photography, Major: Client-centred Photography and Major: World-centred Photography.
