Course Summary
In this course you will gain a deep understanding of automotive design considering the key engineering disciplines and methods throughout the life cycle of a product. The primary focus of the course is on the MANAGEMENT of the life cycle phases in the design and development of the automobile from a systems perspective (from 'cradle' to 'grave'). This includes a wide range of considerations, including technical innovation, quality, reliability, safety, sustainability and environmental aspects. The underpinning engineering design approach introduced in this course is based on the Design for Six Sigma methodology.
More specifically, the course includes the following key topics:
- Product life-cycle management
- Global design and communication (e-design)
- Automobile system design
- Safety regulations and design for safety
- Environmental regulations and design for environment
- Design integration and optimisation
- Virtual design and development
- Design validation
- Knowledge management
- Autonomous Vehicle technologies and implications
- Presentation skills
