Course Summary
This course explores the concepts, issues and opportunities in the strategic management of Information Systems (IS) and Information Technology (IT). Delivering strategic value with IT and the alignment of business and IS/IT are core themes of the course. The course furthermore addresses the topics of IT governance, IT-enabled innovation and IT portfolio management as significant parts of current day IS/IT strategies. With a focus on IS/IT management issues as opposed to technical issues critical IS/IT issues are investigated within their organizational contexts and readily applicable models and frameworks for developing and implementing IT strategies are introduced. You will apply a problem-based learning approach and based on a number of mini cases that present actual IS/IT strategy issues within the context of real organizations uncover, identify, analyse, and resolve IS/IT challenges and problems that IT and business managers are facing in the current business and societal context. In this way this course provides a learning experience in which your knowledge and skills will be applied and assessed in a simulated workplace context and where feedback based on industry practice is integral to your experience. This course also provides you with a learning experience, which will give you the opportunity to integrate, critically reflect on and consolidate what you have learnt in your program.
