Course Summary

In this course you will be introduced to the construction of buildings and structures which will provide a background to your learning in all subsequent construction courses. This course focuses on the products of construction and explores the features and functions of buildings and structures.
Specifically, you will be introduced to the history of buildings and structures and to the main types of assets that the construction industry designs and produces. You will develop your knowledge of the distinctive and shared features of these different assets and your understanding of the role these assets play in the wider economic and social contexts.
Emphasis is also placed on the terminology of buildings and the industry. Topics studied include:
