Course Summary

Chinese Language and Society is the seventh consecutive course offered by the Chinese Studies Program at RMIT University. The course situates your learning of the Chinese language in authentic, sophisticated contexts for academic, professional, and social purposes. You will engage in interactive learning activities that develop your Chinese language capabilities in three domains. The learning activities will cover multiple facets of news translation, business correspondence, and tourism and education-related communication.

You will continue to build your advanced communicative competence in Chinese, whilst developing a nuanced understanding about employing your English/bilingual capabilities in intercultural contexts. A greater emphasis will be placed on translating, interpreting, and developing advanced writing skills.

Student-centred learning and intercultural activities encourage you to self-regulate your learning and become critical and creative in your communication in international contexts.
