Course Summary

In this Work Integrated Learning (WIL) course students will undertake a sequence of practical flight training exercises under the oversight of a licenced flight instructor, to meet the experience and competency requirements of an Australian Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) Private Pilot Licence (PPL) holder. Learning will be undertaken with the RMIT Aviation Academy (RAA) in a single engine training aircraft and flight simulator, as well as through pre-flight and post-flight briefings.
Students will build upon the competencies established during their Recreational Pilot Licence training by performing a series of longer flying exercises, both under direct supervision and as pilot in command without supervision. These exercises will cover planning and conducting cross-country flights, the use of aeronautical charts and navigation aids, operating in controlled airspace and associated contingencies. Upon completion of the flight exercises students will undergo a PPL phase check or licence test to assess their competency against the CASA PPL licence requirements.
