Course Summary

This course is taken in the final semester of the Associate Degree and involves a major project. The project will allow you to develop, manage and achieve holistically the objectives of a design project. This Capstone will meaningfully build on prior experiences and capacities while also developing critical skills in evaluation of learning needs for a given scenario. The project work will be the focus in both this course and Decoration Design Studio 3.
You will focus on a complex design solution for a medium scale, multi-purpose space. The major project will focus on Interior fit outs relating to commercial or institutional spaces. These directions may include the design for specialist care facilities such as non for profit organizations and children's learning spaces or exhibition spaces, retail spaces and community spaces. Each project will acknowledge a strong social conscience.
You will develop the conceptual premise for one of these environments. Based on the detailed criteria set out by the brief, your design solutions will balance the pragmatic and functional requirements with conceptual and creative underpinnings. Your conceptual development of designs in Decoration Design Studio 3 will consider social, cultural, psychological and environmental factors in order to create holistic design experiences. You will explore and resolve your design solutions from concept through to design development and presentation and finally documentation.
