Course Summary
Prior to Semester 1 2022 this course was titled 'Interpreting Accrediting Practice'
In this course you will develop the skills and knowledge required for oral transfer, the primary competency of the professional interpreter. You will also develop the ability to apply relevant contextual and pragmatic knowledge required of interpreting assignments.
You will be introduced to a range of specific interpreting techniques, such as conversation turn-taking and its dynamics, note-taking for consecutive interpreting, sight translation and whispered simultaneous interpreting.
You will learn how to identify and employ cohesion and intonation patterns applicable to oral communication.
Upon the completion of this test, you will be eligible to sit the Provisionally Certified Interpreting test administered by the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI).
