This course traces histories and theories of photography from the medium’s conception to the 21st century. You will explore key genres, concepts and discourses in photographic visual culture. You will examine how photographs have been taken, disseminated, considered and used in various historical contexts, and the ongoing impacts of digital technology. By engaging with cultural issues related to international and Australian photography, and photography as a medium continually and profoundly affected by changing technologies, you will develop a critical perspective on the role photographic imagery plays in the world today.
This is a core course within the Bachelor of Photography and part of Major: Photography.
