Course Summary
The aim of this course is to provide you with a thorough understanding of the principles and practices at the level of specialised knowledge and skills used in metallic biomaterials processing and medical device manufacturing. You will be introduced to the main categories of metallic biomaterials and their primary applications as medical devices, and the essential considerations in design and manufacturing of metallic biomaterials and medical device. You will develop advanced and integrated understanding of a complex body of knowledge in the areas of biomaterials and medical devices with a series of learning activities that allow you to apply manufacturing principles and professional practices in selecting a metallic biomaterial and design its manufacturing processes for a specific medical device application, for instance, a hip replacement, a stent, or a dental implant. You will acquire expert skills in the evaluation of the mechanical and biological properties of metallic biomaterials.
