In this course, you will develop your capability as a mental health nursing leader and understand how leadership influences recovery-focused, consumer-centred care. You will build the knowledge and confidence to lead teams, influence practice change, and support the development of others across diverse mental health settings.

You will critically analyse historical and contemporary leadership theories, including key mental health nursing theorists, to examine how leadership approaches shape care delivery and consumer outcomes. You will apply these concepts to your own context by exploring how leadership styles, delegation, and shift leadership impact safety, collaboration, and the consumer experience in practice.

You will also engage with mentoring and preceptoring models, applying them to supervision and coaching scenarios to support effective learning and professional development. Through case-based discussions, critical reflection, and practice-focused activities, you will evaluate and refine your leadership and mentoring approaches.

By the end of the course, you will be equipped to apply advanced leadership skills to drive clinical practice change, support colleagues, and contribute to high-quality, recovery-oriented mental health care.
