Advanced Topics in Mathematics 1 extends your undergraduate mathematical studies into specialised areas of contemporary relevance in modern applied mathematics. The course provides structured engagement with advanced theories, analytical frameworks and modelling approaches that underpin current developments in science, engineering and related quantitative disciplines.

In consultation with your project supervisor and the Discipline Honours Coordinator, you will select an approved advanced mathematics topic that aligns with your Honours research direction and strengthens your disciplinary depth. Topic selection is formally approved to ensure appropriate level, academic equivalence and alignment with the Honours program learning outcomes.

Assessment formats may vary depending on the selected topic; however, all assessment is evaluated against common criteria mapped to the Course Learning Outcomes to ensure consistent demonstration of advanced mathematical understanding, rigorous reasoning and the application of specialised theoretical, analytical or computational methods to complex problems.

This course supports the development of higher-order analytical capability, intellectual independence and disciplined mathematical argumentation consistent with Honours-level expectations.

If you are enrolled in this course as a component of your Bachelor Honours Program, your overall mark will contribute to the calculation of the Weighted Average Mark (WAM).
