Advanced Topics in Mathematics 2 builds on the advanced disciplinary study undertaken in Advanced Topics in Mathematics 1 and deepens your engagement with contemporary and emerging developments in modern applied mathematics. The course emphasises integrated understanding, critical extension of complex mathematical ideas and the evaluation of their disciplinary contribution and implications.
In consultation with your project supervisor and the Discipline Honours Coordinator, you will select an approved advanced mathematics topic that strengthens alignment with your Honours research and extends your analytical depth. Topic selection is formally approved to ensure appropriate academic level, coherence with the Honours program learning outcomes and disciplinary equivalence.
Assessment formats may vary depending on the selected topic. Regardless of structure, all assessment is evaluated against common criteria mapped to the Course Learning Outcomes to ensure consistent demonstration of advanced and integrated mathematical understanding, critical justification of analytical approaches and defensible contribution within contemporary applied mathematics.
This course supports the consolidation and extension of high-level analytical reasoning, intellectual independence and disciplined mathematical argumentation consistent with Honours-level expectations.
If you are enrolled in this course as a component of your Bachelor Honours Program, your overall mark will contribute to the calculation of the Weighted Average Mark (WAM).
