This course will provide you with an introduction to principles, key (theoretical and practical) elements and appropriate knowledge and skills in the fields of Visual Arts and Performing Arts. The Victorian Curriculum states, 'Students learn as artist and as audience', and this is the guiding statement for teaching and learning in the Arts for this course.
While Visual Arts, Drama, Dance, Music and Media are each approached through immersive, thematic explorations, multi-arts and cross-curricular integration is also emphasised. Throughout the course, you will gain conceptual and technical skill development in arts practice, an understanding of formal Arts elements, and an appreciation of artworks within historical and contemporary contexts. You will also learn how the arts can promote the development of the imagination, creativity, critical thinking, playfulness, problem solving and social skills and personal well-being. The practical tutorials provide not only understanding of the arts but how to approach teaching the arts in Primary and Early Childhood Education.
