This course is undertaken in conjunction with HWSS2233 Work Integrated Learning 2. You will participate in Community of Practice workshops that consider your placement experience, your knowledge and skills, the workplace context and feedback from industry, young people as service users and the community.
This Capstone course serves as the pinnacle experience for final-year youth work students. The course provides you with opportunities to demonstrate your in-depth understanding and capabilities related to core youth work competencies developed over the breadth of your degree. You will engage in reflexive learning related to your concurrent final Work Integrated Learning course, with a particular focus on your understanding of good youth work and ethical practice. This work is undertaken to prepare for and reflect on your transition from university to your professional career or research through exploring your developing professional identity.
You will draw on skills and knowledge developed throughout your degree and complete a portfolio or research-based project where your professional self will be the subject, underpinned by theory, skills developed, professional ethics and the WIL experience.
This final course prepares you to enter the youth work profession as a competent, reflexive practitioner, capable of working ethically and effectively and supporting young people's wellbeing, development and agency. The course is designed for you to apply and critically reflect upon the ideas, skills and graduate capabilities you have gained through your program. It will also help you to critically evaluate professional practices and organisational demands using scholarly ideas and your professional insights, with a particular focus on praxis.
