Course Summary

In this course you will identify, explore and subvert garment and market signifiers to propose alternative fashion outcomes relevant to a specific genre or category within the global fashion market. You will develop and explore various clothing genres, archetypal garments, production techniques and communication strategies through a redesign project. The course focuses on developing your ability to conduct industry and design research within a particular area of the fashion market to inform the design and development of fashion project outcomes.
At the completion of this course students will have an understanding of the main areas of the fashion market and have developed a deeper knowledge of a particular genre, category or fashion archetype through a dedicated redesign project. Understanding the key design principles associated with a specific area of the fashion market and being able to exploit the possibilities that present themselves through critical reflection on these constructs, is elemental to the successful completion of this course.
