Course Summary
In this course you will begin to interrogate the process of developing garment forms by exploring the spaces between the garment and body, in conjunction with experiences of both wearing and making. The body - idealised and actual, static and moving - will act as a catalyst for fashion design explorations.
During this course you will explore different ways of working and thinking in three dimensions, of documenting your ideas, and of developing iterative approaches to fashion design practice. The studio culminates in an individual design project that will build your skills and confidence in using the design process to explore your own design responses, concepts and outcomes.
This course aims to introduce 2D and 3D approaches to garment design using innovative methods of pattern cutting and exploratory draping techniques. Class exercises will challenge you to develop non-traditional methods to form garment shapes and join materials. Short studio projects will develop your ability to reflect and critique design processes and outcomes.
