Course Summary

During this guided immersion, we will explore the heritage of textiles from selected ethnic minority groups in Vi?t Nam. This course delves into traditional textile practices, symbolic motifs, and narratives. We will learn from their practice of developing materials and what they are used for. In contrast we will explore contemporary textile manufacturing, as well as contemporary textile designers' practice often based on the Vietnamese culture and heritage. The focus extends beyond aesthetics, to address sustainability and the pertinent issues faced by the textile industry in Vi?t Nam. Through village visits, industry visits, talks, workshops, and museum visits you will explore the rich tapestry of knowledge that Vi?t Nam has to share with us.
