Course Summary
This course focuses on the significance of communication in patient-facing health professional and non-patient facing biomedical science practice. You'll examine factors affecting professional communication, including personal values and cultural influences. The content covers key aspects such as professionalism, ethical practice, inter-professional collaboration, and digital literacy. The goal is to develop communication skills essential for culturally safe and reflective practice in your future health and biomedical science profession. The course also addresses using communication to build inclusive communities. It explores the 'me' in a discipline-specific context and your role as an emerging professional supporting patient care, clinical and laboratory practice, and/or research. Case studies presented in lectorial and tutorial sessions draw from various disciplines within the School of Health and Biomedical Sciences and insights from industry partners.
