Course Summary
This course will enable you to gain a better understanding of mental illness presentations in the community. Key principles from cognitive, developmental, and social psychology will be outlined to better equip you to understand and respond appropriately to common psychological, social, and cultural determinants of mental illness. Topics such as depression, anxiety, and substance use disorders will be explored. You will also be introduced to strategies to help you communicate with individuals who have a mental health concern via mental health first aid awareness. Finally, the importance of self-care and methods to overcome barriers to practicing self-care will be discussed.
