In this clinical practice course, you will focus on developing knowledge and skills required for work in maternal and child health (MCH) settings. Clinical practice will include both MCH placement and key community visits. Clinical placement extends your experience of issues affecting children and their families. This learning will progress your skills in clinical assessment and anticipatory guidance to complement your nursing and midwifery experience. This course will further develop your ability to be a reflective health professional in terms of your own practice and wider professions related to child and family health.
A prerequisite for entry to the RMIT Child and Family Health Nursing program is a student arranged maternal and child health placement. Other clinical placements are organised by RMIT University and are designed to link with the specific learning undertaken during this period of your studies. For the most current information related to all clinical placements please contact the Course Coordinator.
Students enrolled in this course will be required to undertake placement as part of the assessment of the course. A number of requirements must be met by students to ensure eligibility for placement. Further details on each of these are available in Part B of the Course Guide and on MyRMIT. These include:
- National Police Check
- Working with Children Check
- Immunisation Declaration Form
There is no flexibility with these requirements. It is your responsibility to ensure THESE REQUIREMENTS ARE COMPLETED. Any student who has not provided this information will not be able to attend placement and will receive a fail grade for the placement course.
