Course Summary
Pharmacy Practice B further develops the knowledge, behaviours and skills introduced in PHAR1037 Pharmacy Practice A.
In this course you will learn how to assess and safely dispense a prescription, and how to counsel a patient about their medicines. You will also deepen your understanding of pharmacy legislation and management, while developing cultural competency and insight into the health needs and perspectives of First Nations peoples.
You will extend your knowledge of minor health conditions presented in the primary care setting and their optimal management. You will be introduced to the process of medication review, obtaining the best possible medication history, advising patients and communicating findings with relevant health professionals. ?
You will be introduced the concepts of social accountability and its importance in developing healthier societies. ?
This course includes your second Work Integrated Learning (WIL) experience, in which your knowledge and skills will be applied and assessed in the community pharmacy workplace context and where feedback from industry and/ or community is integral to your experience. You will reflect on your experiences during the placement to inform your own professional development.?
Note: Study Abroad program students will be exempted from the Work Integrated Learning Activities. ?

Students enrolled in this course will be required to undertake placement as part of the assessment of the course. ?A number of mandatory requirements must be met by students to ensure eligibility for placement. ?Please ensure you meet all mandatory Part A and Part B requirements of the Professional Placement Passport.
There is no flexibility with these requirements. ?It is your responsibility to ensure THESE REQUIREMENTS ARE COMPLETED. ?Any student who has not provided this information by the due date will not be able to attend placement and will receive a fail grade for the placement course.?
Students need to be able to meet the inherent requirements of the program. At any time prior to or during your placement, if there are concerns raised related to your fitness to practise, the WIL/clinical coordinator can request that you gain full medical clearance to continue your placement.?
