By bringing together the key elements of the earlier courses, this course focuses on the four macro skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking together with a focus on the newer literacies of viewing and creating multimodal texts. Everyday communication practices are increasingly shaped by information and multimedia technologies, so learners need to learn increasingly complex literacies as they navigate multimodal and hybrid texts. A focus on the reading and writing skills of those who are new to learning English as an academic language in the upper primary is addressed in this course. With a focus on the functional aspects of language in use, you will consider the reciprocity between reading and writing and consider teaching strategies and planning for literacies learning.
