This course considers how teaching and learning in secondary schools can be improved through better understanding of literacy and numeracy and improved literacy and numeracy practices. You will explore your role as a future secondary school teacher in developing appropriate literacy and numeracy knowledge and skills in both your learners and yourself. You will be supported through this course to develop an in-depth and evidence-informed understanding of both literacy and numeracy content and pedagogies to prepare you to provide for the needs of a diverse student population. Importantly, you will learn to identify the literacy and numeracy challenges in specific curriculum areas and in the secondary curriculum generally and acquire practical classroom strategies to help students meet these challenges.
