Course Summary
This course introduces you to foundational concepts, language, and debates in Gender Studies. You will learn about contemporary and historical perspectives on gender, sex and sexuality in feminism, gender studies, queer thought, and trans studies. You will consider the relationship of these perspectives to historical and contemporary social movements. You will engage with intersectional thinking and critical philosophies of race.
In this course you will study a range of texts and media including theoretical essays, films, video, photography, and audio. You will learn skills in critical thinking, and the description and analysis of various textual and media forms. Introduction to Gender offers an inclusive and respectful forum for you to think deeply about diverse perspectives on gender, sex, and sexuality.
