Course Summary

This course provides you with both theoretical and practical insights into the dynamic process of knowledge acquisition and transfer between boundary-spanning managers of business partners in joint venture subsidiaries, among subsidiaries within the same multinational enterprises (MNEs), and between subsidiaries and their headquarters. The course will cover factors that promote or hinder effective knowledge sharing and transfer in MNEs, the role of informal and formal governance mechanisms to safeguard knowledge sharing and transfer, the organisational conditions and managerial capabilities that influence knowledge sharing and transfer, as well as the challenges and opportunities for mutual knowledge sharing and transfer in international joint ventures.
The course is focused on knowledge sharing and transfer at interpersonal and inter-organisational levels, covering two key themes:
1. Vertical knowledge sharing and transfer from headquarter to subsidiary and vice versa;
2. Horizontal knowledge sharing and transfer between business partners, managers, and subsidiaries.
The course will equip you with essential knowledge and skills required to effectively manage the acquisition and transfer of knowledge within the context of MNEs.
