Course Summary

In this course, you will explore the intricate relationship between the media, crime, and culture. Starting with traditional media forms like newspaper reporting to Hollywood blockbusters to the contemporary true crime, you will consider how the media influence, undermine, and elevate how society interacts with crime. Through engaging lectures, case studies, and discussions, you will understand how the contemporary media landscape shapes public perceptions, influences public policy, and impact the community. Whether by analysing contemporary, real-world case studies or dissecting fictional representations, you will gain critical insights into the interplay between the media and criminological perspectives.
This course is part of the major Criminology offered with the BP023P26 Bachelor of Criminology and Criminal Justice program.
