Course Summary

In this course you will explore how textiles serve as powerful tools for cultural expression, community building, and social change. This course challenges you to consider your role as a designer within the global community. You will gain perspective on historical and contemporary examples of textiles as agents of change, building awareness of ethical considerations including cultural appropriation, sustainability, and social responsibility.
Through screen printing and pattern design, you will develop technical skills while creating textiles that communicate meaningful narratives and engage with contemporary social issues. Working across both hand and digital processes, you will investigate how pattern and mark-making reflect human experience and cultural identity. You will develop technical skills in screen preparation, printing processes, and pattern development while learning how these techniques can be applied to create impactful design outcomes.
This course is a component of the major in Textile and Material Design offered in BP326P26 Bachelor of Fashion Sustainability.
