Course Summary

Sound is a durational, spatial performative material. In this course you will explore diverse forms of sound as creative practice, from making recordings, crafting experimental compositions and soundscapes to working with sound objects. The course is structured to provide a foundational understanding of audio technologies in relation to creative practice. Through hands-on workshops and projects, you will gain practical experience with field-recording, editing techniques, the creation of soundscapes and engage with different presentation methods.
Your work will build on the rich history of sound in creative practice. Sound is ubiquitous within contemporary creative practice, and is used as a primary medium, or as an integral component of video, performance and installation. Even its absence acts as an active silence.
Alongside the technical, the course also encourages experimentation and critical thinking, and will challenge, and support you to push the boundaries of these technologies in your creative practice.
This course introduces key RMIT capabilities and sets the foundation for a continuum of professional skills for the creative industries.
This course is part of the Major and Minor: Expanded Media Arts.
