Photography is inextricably entangled in the creation and communication of the fashion image. From its historical connections to the contemporary field, photography has shaped how we create, understand, consume and question fashion.
This course will enable you to interrogate how photographic images have shaped the fashion industry, challenging traditional and historical fashion images to uncover contemporary and ethical concerns about power, sexism, sustainability and fast fashion.
Working mainly in the studio, you will learn through workshops and demonstrations and hear from industry experts to fully engage with industry professional practice.
Throughout the semester, you will develop your own visual language through experimental approaches to fashion photography, exploring innovative techniques that could shape the future of fashion imagery.
This course includes Industry Partnered Learning (IPL) in the form of simulated Work Integrated Learning (WIL) where you will have the opportunity to participate in authentic industry and community engaged activities and tasks to support your professional development and career planning. This course is part of the Major and Minor: Client-centred Photography and Major: Photography.
