Course Summary

Exhibition spaces and installation choices transform how we experience and understand photographs. In this course, you will examine the relationship between photographic works and their display environments, focusing on how physical and social contexts shape the meaning and impact of images.
A central focus of this course will be to develop a site-responsive exhibition. The course will take you through the process of researching and writing an exhibition proposal, designing an installation, crafting exhibition texts and producing artwork for the space. You will have the option to work with your existing photographic archive or create new images, learning to adapt and develop your practice for specific locations.
Through the course, you will explore diverse ways of producing and presenting the photographic image, from traditional wall-based work to other forms of installation. This may include digital printing, experimental analogue processes, or screen-based and projection works. Grounded in photographic discourse, you will investigate how photographs can respond to and activate different spaces, from traditional galleries to unexpected locations.
This course includes Industry Partnered Learning (IPL) in the form of simulated Work Integrated Learning (WIL) where you will have the opportunity to participate in authentic industry and community engaged activities and tasks to support your professional development and career planning. This course is part of Major and Minor: Art-centred Photography and Major: Photography.
