In this studio course, you will engage with contemporary product photography as a creative approach that goes beyond simply showcasing a product. You will be introduced to artistic elements and storytelling techniques to convey a message, theme or emotion related to an object. Drawing from the history of still life photography, illustration and product design, the aim of product photography is to connect an object, brand or product with an audience.
You will hear from industry professionals about how contemporary product photography is adaptive and conceptual. You will also consider techniques that range from studio to expanded photography skills. This course covers the fundamentals of studio photography and lighting skills, as well as art direction and styling, where you will be able to demonstrate basic product shots to broader conceptual creations, including a wide range of subjects that may include food, drinks, jewellery, perfume, artwork, furniture, small appliances and more.
This course includes Industry Partnered Learning (IPL) in the form of simulated Work Integrated Learning (WIL) and Industry Embedded Activities (IEA) such as guest speakers and industry relevant projects. Your final project work will be a fully developed campaign through a client/photographer relationship, reflecting industry standards and application.
