Course Summary

In this course, you will play and experiment with 3D modelling and world-building, looking at ways to engage with these technologies and apply these skills to your creative practice. The course will provide you with a foundational exploration of 3D modelling and an introduction to extended reality (XR). You will gain hands-on experience with a range of software platforms and develop appropriate workflow strategies to confidently incorporate 3D modelling into your projects and explore relevant presentation and resolved outcomes.
Additionally, you will experiment with Virtual Reality (VR) to create immersive environments and Augmented Reality (AR) to reimagine the world around us. Through these tools, you will engage in world building, work with and 360° environments and interactive experiences.
This course emphasises a combination of technical skills and creative experimentation, encouraging you to push the boundaries of the technologies. Throughout, you will discuss and reflect on the work of leading artists in this field, considering the emerging ubiquitousness of these technologies in contemporary culture.
This course introduces key RMIT capabilities and sets the foundation for a continuum of professional skills for the creative industries. This course is part of the Major and Minor: Expanded Media Arts.
